930 Meters with GEDA – Elevator Solutions Support Bridge Renovation in Slovenia
Near Maribor, Slovenia, extensive renovation work is currently underway on the Skedenj-I and Skedenj-II bridges. For this demanding infrastructure project, technology from Bavaria is playing a key role: the medium-sized company GEDA GmbH, based in Asbach-Bäumenheim, is supplying two elevator systems that significantly contribute to the efficiency and safety of the work.

The Challenge of Bridge Renovation
The renovation of the two bridges is expected to take around six months. The Skedenj-I bridge impresses with a length of 530 meters and a height of up to 30 meters. Skedenj-II is slightly shorter at 400 meters but reaches a height of 50 meters. The project is considered a flagship endeavor in the field of bridge renovation—not least due to the use of two different types of scaffolding structures. A hanging scaffold is used along the entire roadway, and the relevant pylons are fully scaffolded as well.

Efficient Transport of Materials and Personnel
The GEDA 300 Z ensures fast and safe transport of materials. This reliable material hoist handles lifting heights of up to 100 meters with ease and can carry loads of up to 300 kilograms at a speed of 30 m/min—an indispensable solution for managing heavy and bulky construction materials.
In addition, the GEDA 500 Z/ZP is in use. This versatile transport platform is suitable for both materials and personnel. In passenger mode, it can carry up to five people; in material mode, it transports up to 500 kilograms at a speed of 24 m/min. In passenger mode, it reaches a speed of 12 m/min. Both units are equipped with GEDA’s well-designed landing level safety gates—available in both the “Comfort” version, particularly suited for use on scaffolding, and the “Eco” version—offering a high level of safety on every floor.

A Strong Partnership on Equal Terms
For this project, GEDA is collaborating with its Slovenian partner HEGOMONT d.o.o. and its legal predecessors—a successful partnership that has lasted for over 25 years. HEGOMONT brings over 30 years of experience in construction site setup and construction machinery, while GEDA contributes more than 90 years of expertise in the development and manufacturing of construction and industrial elevators. The result: a well-coordinated team with comprehensive know-how and “Made in Germany” solutions, tackling the challenges of the Slovenian market with innovation and reliability.

“This is the largest renovation of viaducts—highway bridges—in the history of Slovenia. We could never have successfully completed such a massive project under such demanding conditions without the help of GEDA elevators. Thanks to their support, we are progressing rapidly with the construction of the hanging scaffolds—at a pace of over 12 meters per day along the entire underside of the bridge. The project also marks a milestone for us, as it is the largest construction project in our company’s history—both in terms of scope and financially,” says Jernej Gornjak, Technical Director at HEGOMONT d.o.o.
