GEDA 300 Z/ZP in the Europe city of Strasbourg

Strasbourg is one of Europe's most beautiful cities – and not least due to its huge cathedral with its unusual ornamentations. Thanks to the city's diverse and rich cultural heritage, the entire city centre known as the “Grande Ile”, has been nominated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In autumn 2012 a GEDA 300 Z/ZP transport platform helped with refurbishment works in the heart of the Strasbourg city centre.

Refurbishment with obstructions

The name Strasbourg comes from the French meaning “fortification of streets” and it certainly lives up to its name as the cityscape is full of small and often winding streets. What may sound romantic at first glance presents a genuine challenge for construction machinery, which was also the case in Rue du Nideck in the heart of Strasbourg city centre. In October 2012 extensive refurbishment work was carried out on an old building. There was not much space available for the work as the construction site was located on a very busy one-way street. Added to this was the problem that in many old buildings in Strasbourg there are no high voltage power supply points as was the case in the building requiring renovation in Rue du Nideck. Another factor to consider was the police headquarters located directly opposite which meant that the one-way street had to remain passable for traffic throughout the renovation work.

GEDA 300 Z/ZP – compact, manoeuvrable, innovative

Narrow streets, winding approaches and limited space on the construction site are all perfect conditions for the GEDA 300 Z/ZP transport platform. Where other transport platforms are unable to get through, the GEDA 300 Z/ZP with its folding working platform is totally in its element.
GEDA's partner ECHAMAT-KERNST sold the equipment to the construction company responsible for the works.
The “smallest” of the GEDA transport platforms wins over customers with its range of advantages. In its folded state, the 300 Z/ZP is just 0.85 metres wide which enables it to be easily transported to the construction site, even through narrow access routes. With its practical forklift access, the entire device can easily be transported by a pallet truck or forklift.

Its two separate controls enable the transport platform to be used either as a construction hoist or as a transport platform for a maximum of three people. In Rue du Nideck the GEDA 300 Z/ZP was used purely as a construction hoist with a lifting speed of 12 m/min, since a separate mobile crane was used to transport the building materials. Due to the health and safety guidelines specified by the end-customer, the transport platform was provided for the transportation of people. As with all GEDA rack and pinion hoists, the lubrication equipment is included as standard in the 300 Z/ZP, which ensures significantly lower wear and tear on the toothed rack and pinions.
GEDA also offers the full package as regards safety, so a GEDA “Comfort” landing level safety gate was installed to ensure a safe passage from the platform to the unloading point in the top floor of the old building. The GEDA 300 Z/ZP is naturally equipped with the usual safety equipment such as limit switches, speed-dependent safety gear, safety stop and overload protection.

Refurbishment successfully completed

Small but sophisticated, the GEDA 300 Z/ZP kept its promise and scored highly everywhere it was deployed in Rue du Nideck in Strasbourg, being able once again to persuasively demonstrate its unique advantages.
