GEDA 300 Z/ZP transport platform plays its part in the renovation of the St. Michel Cathedral

The renovation of the 17th century St. Michel Cathedral in the French town of Sospel is placing high demands both on the stucco plasterers, painters, scaffolders and on the construction site equipment used. A transport platform from the Bavarian hoist manufacturer GEDA-Dechentreiter GmbH & Co. KG has proven to be a practical support tool in the venerable church building.

So that it could also restore the difficult to access ceiling and wall paintings and decorations, the scaffolding installation company undertaking the works, Entrepose Echaufaudage, took the decision to install a transport platform which could be used for transporting both people and materials. The narrow, winding interior of the church also required an extremely space-saving compact device. A suitable solution was quickly found with the decision to use a GEDA 300 Z/ZP transport platform from the Bavarian hoist specialists GEDA.
Even the approach to the picturesquely located cathedral turned out to be very difficult, because since the access is via an underpass, the transport platform had first to be unloaded from the HGV. Once it had arrived in front of the venerable building, the next obstacle, namely the narrow entrance door, had to be overcome. Therefore it was a good thing that Entrepose Echaufaudage had selected the GEDA 300 Z/ZP, the compact space miracle for this project.

GEDA 300 Z/ZP – the compact space miracle

Narrow streets, winding access roads, limited space on the construction site are all perfect conditions for the GEDA 300 Z/ZP transport platform. Where other transport platforms can't get through, the compact GEDA 300 Z/ZP with its foldable working platform is totally in its element.
The “baby” of the GEDA transport platforms wins over customers with its range of benefits. When folded, the GEDA 300 Z/ZP is only 0.85 metres wide making its transportation to the construction site easy, even when it has to fit through tight entrances.

So the narrow entrance door of Cathedral did not present any challenge at all for the GEDA 300 Z/ZP. Using the practical forklift take-up point, the complete device was effortlessly transported in its folded state through the lobby with a lift truck and then directly assembled. Once arrived inside the church the GEDA 300 Z/ZP again proved itself to be a true space miracle thanks to its space-saving flat cable system, both in the assembly of the scaffolding and in the subsequent work of the painters and stucco plasterers.
The two separate controls mean that the transport platform can either be used as a construction hoist or a transport platform for 300 kg or for three people. With a lifting speed of 12 m/min, the GEDA 300 Z/ZP transports people and materials up to heights of 50 metres quickly and safely. In Sospel the assembly height was 25 metres. As with all GEDA rack and pinion hoists, the lubrication equipment is included as standard in the GEDA 300 Z/ZP transport platform. This ensures significantly lower wear on the toothed rack and pinions.

Safety First

As far as safety is concerned, GEDA offers the full package. Two Standard GEDA landing level safety gates have been installed to ensure a safe passage from the platform to the two unloading points. Other winning features are the hot dip galvanized doors which are simple to assemble and can be installed either to open on the left or on the right. The GEDA 300 Z/ZP device is naturally equipped with the usual safety equipment such as limit switches, speed-dependent arresters, safety stop and overload protection. An extra safety feature is the trailing cable protection included as standard. As the transport platform also transports people, national safety regulations stipulated that it had also to be equipped with a protection grid underneath the hoist car.
The optionally available LED display diagnostic system removes the need for expensive and often time consuming trouble-shooting.

Also not to be underestimated is the benefit provided by the GEDA Unimast system as this proven mast system can be used universally with the GEDA 300 Z/ZP, GEDA 500 Z/ZP and GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platforms and with the GEDA Multilifts P6 and P18. This means that, mainly in relation to rental equipment operators, minimum levels of investment are needed and space and storage requirements can be kept low. The GEDA 300 Z/ZP complements the rental equipment stock range, since it offers a customer solution for difficult to access construction sites which makes the workflow considerably easier.

The Cathedral is now gleaming in its new splendour

The “Cathédrale de Sospel” is considered to be a secret tip for tourists to France across the world. And not least through the use of the GEDA 300 Z/ZP, the numerous wall and ceiling paintings will soon be shining again in their full glory and the GEDA height access specialists can record another successful installation.
