Classic meets classical

GEDA 500 Z/ZP in use at the Semperoper in Dresden

In the summer of 2025, the Semperoper’s summer break was used to carry out part of the extensive maintenance work on the historic opera house in Dresden. The renovation of the façade is still ongoing and is being carried out in several phases. The work is aimed at restoring and ensuring the long-term preservation of this unique building.

The building works cover various areas of the Semperoper: from the stage, through the entrance areas, the entrance on the Zwinger side and the associated stairwell, to the building’s external walls. In addition, extensive work is being carried out on the façade. The exterior walls of the Semperoper are being sealed in sections and protected behind the sandstone plinth with a layer of bitumen. In the entrance area on Theaterplatz, the sandstone balustrade is also being repaired.

Tried-and-tested technology for efficient outdoor work

To ensure that the external work can be carried out as efficiently and smoothly as possible, a tried-and-tested GEDA classic is being used on site: the GEDA 500 Z/ZP aerial work platform. The machine is indispensable for day-to-day operations and is provided by GEDA partner BNS Baumaschinen GmbH.

The GEDA 500 Z/ZP was already in operation on the left-hand side of the Semperoper building right from the start of the works. The lift has since been moved to the right-hand side of the building, where it is supporting the next phase of construction. This means that GEDA is also on site for the second phase of the façade renovation, providing its tried-and-tested aerial access technology.

Designed specifically for the demanding realities of everyday construction site life, the GEDA 500 Z/ZP access platform impresses with its versatility. Thanks to two separate control systems, the unit can be used both as a dedicated goods lift and as an access platform for people and loads. With a lifting speed of 24 m/min in material mode and 12 m/min in passenger mode, the GEDA 500 Z/ZP supports rapid construction progress.

Whether for quick scaffolding erection or subsequent work on the façade, the 500 Z/ZP construction hoist proves to be a reliable asset on the building site. Thanks to its compact design, high load-bearing capacity and versatility, the construction hoist saves valuable time and ensures optimal site logistics.

A tailor-made solution to meet on-site requirements

As no two construction sites are alike, a range of platform variants with different loading doors and hatches allows the GEDA 500 Z/ZP to be optimally adapted to the specific requirements on site. The “C” platform variant is being used for the work at the Semperoper. It offers a load capacity of up to 850 kg and features loading ramps on two sides. This makes the transport platform particularly versatile and allows it to be seamlessly integrated into the site’s operations.
