GEDA hoists to aid in restoring Hull’s Maritime Museum

The imposing St. Martin's Church in Arlon, one of Belgium's oldest cities, has dominated the cityscape since the 19th century. The neo-Gothic sacred building was constructed between 1907 and 1914 and is considered one of the most significant examples of this architectural era in the Wallonia region. Now, a comprehensive renovation of the historic church tower is underway. As part of the restoration, the tower will be partially demolished, the original stones carefully refurbished and then reused in accordance with conservation guidelines – a project that places the highest demands on technology and execution.

For this challenging project, GEDA has supplied a GEDA 1500 Z/ZP with a lifting height of 100 metres and six GEDA Comfort floor safety doors through its long-standing partner Intermat. Intermat is a GEDA dealer and works closely with the medium-sized manufacturer from Asbach-Bäumenheim.

The Belgian company Galère Srl is the contractor and owner of the lift. During this time, the transport platform will be used both for assembling the scaffolding and for transporting materials and personnel during the restoration work. The listed church tower posed particular challenges for the fastening technology: Since no drilling or screw connections were permitted on the building itself, the lift was anchored exclusively to the scaffolding. This was made possible by the GEDA two-mast system, which allows low anchoring forces with large anchoring distances of up to 12 metres – thanks to the innovative GEDA UNI-X mast.

The BS platform variant is being used, with a generous platform size of 3.30 x 1.45 m and a load capacity of 2,000 kg or 7 persons – ideal for the conditions on this construction site. GEDA also offers numerous other platform variants, ensuring that there is an optimal solution for every application. The total service life of the transport platform is 50 months.

GEDA technology is also used in scaffolding construction: Alphascaff, the company responsible for scaffolding, used a GEDA 200 Z Comfort for the construction work. Two more units of this type will be installed on site in the coming weeks. Further information will follow shortly.

Safe and powerful: the GEDA 1500 Z/ZP

The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platform is available in 16 platform variants – 12 of which have a load capacity of 2,000 kg, distributed across different platform sizes. Depending on the variant, the device can be used for both combined personnel and material transport or exclusively for material transport. This makes the 1500 Z/ZP one of the most popular transport platforms in the industry.
