Scaffolding transport with a difference

An extraordinary renovation project under extreme time pressure: modern lifting technology played a decisive role in the restoration of the monument to the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium. Thanks to the use of a GEDA Slopelift, the project was successfully completed in just twelve weeks.

Logistical challenge at a historic site

The Battle of Waterloo Memorial is one of Europe's most important historical monuments, and its location poses particular challenges for renovation work. Access to the so-called Löwenhügel is via a steep slope with a total of 226 steps. The comprehensive renovation of the monument and the access staircase required the transport of heavy building materials – an enormous logistical challenge.

Everyone was under considerable time pressure: the entire renovation had to be completed within twelve weeks. Transporting the materials manually on foot would have been virtually impossible under these conditions.

GEDA Slopelift as the key to project success

The solution was provided by a GEDA Slopelift with a conveyor length of 76 metres, which proved to be the only practical way to transport heavy material safely and efficiently up the Löwenhügel. The system was provided and supervised by GEDA partner Intermat, which supported the project with technical advice and rental services. This marked a new and innovative approach to scaffolding transport in particular – ‘scaffolding transport with a difference’.
The slope lift not only saved a considerable amount of time, but also significantly increased work safety.

Thanks to the perfectly coordinated cooperation of all those involved and the targeted use of modern hoist technology, the renovation of the Waterloo Monument was completed successfully and on schedule – a successful example of how historic buildings can be preserved using contemporary solutions.

As with the well-known GEDA LIFT, the GEDA Slopelift is also available in a standard and a comfort version. Designed for material transport, the GEDA Slopelift enables the safe transport of loads up to 200 kg (standard version) or 250 kg (comfort version), depending on the model. With a lifting height of up to 80 metres and a lifting speed of 25 m/min in the standard version and 30 m/min in the comfort version, the GEDA Slopelift ensures fast and efficient material flow. It is operated via a 230 V connection with 16 A and a power consumption of 1 kW or 1.3 kW, which means that the system can be used flexibly on a wide variety of construction sites.
